Aikido Shuurin Dojo

Aikido Shuurin Dojo operates at 14121 S Street in Omaha, Nebraska, providing martial arts instruction to practitioners in west Omaha. Established in March 2011, the training center focuses on the traditional Japanese art of Aikido. The facility offers adult classes, children programs, women self-defense sessions, and weekend open mat practice. Founder Sensei Lloyd McWhirt holds the rank of Yondan in Aikido and brings more than 30 years of martial arts experience, having commenced his Aikido practice in 1999. The instructional team includes Sensei Claudia Brown-Jackman, Sensei Brian Harkins, and Sensei Teri Gabel, each contributing background across related martial arts disciplines including Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and wrestling. Classes focus on circular movement, joint locks, balance disruption, and redirecting opponent energy without relying on brute physical force. Students also study traditional weapons katas using the bokken wooden sword and jo staff.
