Alpha Martial Arts Academy

Alpha Martial Arts Academy operates at 415 Center Pl in Altoona, IA 50009, located right next to HyVee Supermarket off 8th Street. The school provides martial arts instruction to students from Altoona as well as neighboring communities including Bondurant, Des Moines, and Pleasant Hull. The academy has been providing Jiu-Jitsu in Altoona since late 2023. Owner and Head Instructor Darren DeSalvo first started training in 1996 and has trained with the Machado brothers since 2006. The teaching staff includes Assistant Adult Instructor Jonathan Fialkov, Assistant Adult Instructor/Kids Instructor Nick Greb, Assistant Adult Instructor/Kids Instructor Patrick Clay, Kids Instructor Karl Cummings, and Kids Instructor Nino Pua. Training options feature the Fighting Fundamentals (14+) program, a 30-week program with a rotating curriculum covering sport and self-defense training. Youth instruction includes Little Jaguars for ages 4-6 alongside Jaguars for ages 7-13. Prospective students can begin with a free trial class.
