Situated at 7959 University Ave in La Mesa, California, American Kenpo Karate, Kick Boxing & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides mixed martial arts and self-defense education. The academy traces its training heritage back to founder Dick Willett, who began martial arts instruction during the early 1960s. The school is led by head instructor Todd McElhinney, a tenth-degree black belt in Kenpo and first-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with 35 years of teaching background. Under his direction, students receive instruction in standing striking combinations, defensive counters, joint manipulations, and ground grappling fundamentals. All school instructors hold karate black belts and maintain at least blue belt ranking in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Prospective students and families can contact Master McElhinney by telephone at (619) 283-6596 or visit the facility to discuss class placement and program offerings.
