BLACK LION JIU JITSU ACADEMY Grand Rapids Michigan is a martial arts school located at 701 68th St in Byron Center, Michigan, located approximately ten minutes south of downtown Grand Rapids. The academy has provided Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training to local families and athletes since 2012 as an affiliate of Team Kroyler Gracie. Head Instructor Chad Pomeroy, a retired Army Iraq War veteran who began training in 2006, holds a first degree black belt under Kroyler Gracie. He is joined by gi and no-gi tournament competitor Ben, instructor Justin Andrews, and striking coach Duncan Duffin, who has trained in multiple martial arts disciplines since 1991. The academy provides gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults of all experience levels, dedicated striking sessions, and a kids martial arts program for ages 4 to 12 emphasizing motor skills, discipline, and practical ground defense. Training is conducted in a supportive, ego-free room designed to build enduring personal discipline and technical mastery. Prospective grapplers and area residents are encouraged to stop in before class to meet the coaching team and observe a session.
