Boran Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu operates at 1548 Adams Avenue Suite F in Costa Mesa, California, training students in the community since March 2000. Instruction is led personally by Professor James Boran, an IBJJF-certified 6th-degree black belt and member of the Dirty Dozen, the first twelve American practitioners to earn a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. The academy conducts specialized classes for youth and adult students across gi and no-gi formats. Youth programs are grouped for children ages 4 to 7 and ages 8 to 15, focusing on movement, body control, balance, and practical grappling fundamentals without striking. Adult sessions provide comprehensive ground grappling instruction, covering sweeps, guard passing, escapes, and submissions. Classes emphasize technical detail, sparring etiquette, leverage, and safe mat progression for martial artists of all experience levels. Grapplers throughout Costa Mesa can visit the Adams Avenue academy to tour the facility, meet Professor Boran, and experience introductory Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.
