Dewey Martial Arts Center operates at 159 Delaware Avenue in Delmar, New York, housing Albany Seito Shito-Ryu Karate-Do with its dojo entrance situated at the rear of the building. The school is led by head instructor Dr. Dudley Moon, who holds the rank of eighth-degree black belt (Hachidan) and the title of Hanshi under Mabuni Kenzo, the second headmaster of Seito Shito-Ryu Karate-Do. Moon brings decades of classical budo experience alongside an academic background as a retired professor of physiology and cell biology. The dojo serves as an educational center for traditional Seito Shito-Ryu Karate-Do, teaching the mainline art passed down through the Mabuni family. The curriculum covers foundational stances (tachi kata), thrusts (tsuki kata), strikes (uchi kata), kicks (keri kata), and defensive blocking methods (uke kata). Students progress through formal kata requirements, bunkai application drills, and structured partner kumite sparring. Instruction also incorporates classical Okinawan weapons training through Kobudo, featuring the bo staff, sai, and kama. Training emphasizes postural alignment, technical refinement, and traditional dojo etiquette. Practitioners cultivate self-defense capability, physical coordination, and mental focus. Prospective students of all experience levels are invited to inquire about enrollment.
