Charter Oak Boxing Academy

Charter Oak Boxing Academy is a youth development and pugilistic training center located at 81 Pope Park Hwy in Hartford, Connecticut. Situated in the Parkville section of Hartford, the non-profit organization—recognized by Ring Magazine as a boxing club where life is the main event—has served the community for over three decades. Directed by Head Coach Johnny Callas, the academy operates under the official name The Charter Oak Amateur Boxing Academy and Youth Development Program Inc., also known as COBA. With over thirty-one years of mentoring experience, the facility utilizes authentic boxing training as a vehicle to promote education, athletic discipline, and personal character. Training sessions for boys and girls ages eight to eighteen operate Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, offering instruction in boxing fundamentals, bag work, footwork drills, and supervised sparring. The academy fosters an environment centered on academic accountability and life skills alongside ring athletics.
