Citadel Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu delivers grappling instruction and martial arts conditioning at 2325 Naples Ave SW in Iowa City, Iowa. The academy provides technical ground combat and self-defense training for youth and adult students across the Iowa City area. The academy is guided by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt head coach Matt Leighton, an accomplished national competitor. Co-owner and head youth coach James Kelly, also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, serves as one of the founders of Eastern Iowa Wrestling Club in Iowa City and directs the academy's youth programs. Coursework encompasses adult gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, beginner-friendly fundamentals, women-only jiu-jitsu classes, tournament competition training, and youth programs tailored for children ages 4 to 13. Training focuses on positional dominance, guard retention, takedowns, and joint submissions. Prospective students can register online to schedule an introductory free trial class.
