Grappling University Martial Arts provides combat sports instruction and ground fighting education at 575 Van Houten Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey. The academy trains youth, teenagers, and adult students from across Clifton and the surrounding northern New Jersey area. Instruction is led by Professor Steven Abill, a 3rd Degree Black Belt who began his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in 2006 and earned his black belt in 2014, with extensive experience coaching scholastic athletes. Judo classes are headed by Sensei Jose Osorio, a 3rd Degree Black Belt Sandan in Judo and BJJ purple belt. A former marine and retired battalion chief, Osorio has coached certified judo programs since 2006 and claimed first place at both the Pan American SAMBO Wrestling Championships and East Coast Judo Championships. Programs include adult gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, adult Judo, youth martial arts for ages 4 to 12, and stand-up striking classes. Training emphasizes takedowns, control positions, and self-defense applications.
