Checkmat Gulf Breeze operates at 1626 Beechwood Dr in Gulf Breeze, Florida 32563. The academy provides martial arts and self-defense instruction for children, teens, and adults in Gulf Breeze. The academy is founded and owned by Janilson Bie, a 2nd Degree Black Belt and IBJJF World Master silver medalist. The program represents a collaboration with Chico Mendes, a 5th Degree Black Belt under Leonardo Vieira and two-time IBJJF World Champion. The coaching staff also features 1st Degree Black Belt Evan Kincade. Instruction focuses on ground grappling, teaching practitioners to utilize chokes and joint locks rather than punches or kicks. Course offerings feature Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Adults Judo, Kids Judo, and Muay Thai and Kickboxing. Youth programs include Kids Martial Arts for ages 3 to 13 and Homeschool BJJ for ages 6 to 13, helping students build athletic coordination and practical self-defense skills.
