MATS Dojo delivers traditional martial arts and self-defense education at 5929 East 22nd Street in Tucson, Arizona. Recognizable by the red torii gate in front, the school perpetuates the teachings of Professor Seishiro H. Okazaki, founder of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu, and operates in affiliation with the Kodenkan Yudanshakai. The instructional roster includes Shihan Dave Lovitt and Shihan John Truman, an eighth-degree black belt in Kajukenbo, preserving traditions honoring Dai Shihan Vinson Holck. Instruction combines Matsuno Kajukenbo Kai, which adapts striking, throws, and joint locks to modern practical application, with Matsuno Ryu Goshinjitsu, a Japanese self-defense jujitsu system taught for students ages 13 and older. The academy also teaches Kajukenbo Karate for ages 12 and older, alongside Kodenkan Bokkendo, a traditional short-sword system created in the 1960s by Dai-Shihan William Montero. Early childhood martial arts is offered through the Lil Dragons program for ages 4 to 7. Training is provided on a month-to-month basis without contracts or long-term commitments, and the first class is offered free of charge.
