Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy

Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy operates from 942 N. 95th Street in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1995 by owner and head instructor Brian J. Johnson, the academy is situated near Green Lake within a 4,000-square-foot training facility. Johnson is a fifth-degree black belt under Rigan Machado, David Meyer, and John Will, bringing decades of competitive experience and coaching expertise to the mats. The school provides instruction in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu rooted in the Carlos Gracie and Machado lineages. Grounded in positional control, leverage, joint submissions, and chokes, classes help students subdue opponents efficiently regardless of size or strength. The academy organizes foundational and advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions in both gi and no-gi formats, alongside youth classes designed to cultivate coordination, discipline, and anti-bullying self-defense. Instruction maintains a strong emphasis on student safety, cooperative drilling, and methodical technical development.
