Rivers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Rivers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is situated at 850 E 13th St in Lawrence, Kansas. The school was founded by Professor Trevor Rivers, an academic and marine biologist who began his Brazilian jiu-jitsu journey in 2001 while in graduate school at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Professor Rivers received his blue belt in the Renzo Gracie Association and later earned purple, brown, and black belts under Gustavo Dantas in Phoenix, Arizona. A tournament competitor, Rivers secured a bronze medal in the black belt division at the 2016 IBJJF Masters World Championship. He blends his background in scholastic wrestling and Hung Gar Kung Fu into his grappling instruction. The curriculum emphasizes a collaborative learning atmosphere where students explore fundamental positions and concepts for sport grappling and self-defense. Classes feature Gi Jiu-Jitsu, No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu, Fundamentals and Concepts, submission wrestling, and Judo throwing techniques.
