Ronin BJJ

Ronin BJJ delivers ground grappling and self-defense education at 1175 State St in New Haven, Connecticut. Located in downtown New Haven, the academy provides combat sports training for students across New Haven County. The school is owned and directed by Head Instructor Luis Figueroa, a 3rd Degree Black Belt under Luigi Mondelli of American Top Team and an IBJJF certified instructor. Figueroa has medaled in over 50 grappling competitions over a 15-year career, winning titles including the 2014 and 2016 IBJJF Pan Am No-Gi Black Belt Masters Championships. Instruction is assisted by Andrew Spinnato, an IBJJF-recognized 2nd Degree Black Belt and Kenpo Karate black belt who incorporates freestyle and catch wrestling into his grappling curriculum. Academy coursework specializes in blending traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with submission wrestling, western scholastic wrestling, judo, and sambo. Additional offerings include kickboxing, Muay Thai, and youth martial arts programs. Training emphasizes ground control, dominant positioning, takedowns, and joint submissions.
