SOMA Jiu-Jitsu Academy

SOMA Jiu-Jitsu Academy is located at 257 N 2nd W Rexburg ID,83440. SOMA was originally established in Idaho Falls in 1994, and the Rexburg facility was founded in 2021 to serve students in East Idaho. James Emfield serves as head instructor and holds the rank of 1st Degree Black Belt. In addition to his martial arts background, he holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. He trained under his father, 3rd Degree Black Belt Professor Jared Emfield, and assisted with instruction at the Idaho Falls location. The school lineage traces through Professor Matt Strack, Master Pedro Sauer, and Grandmaster Rickson Gracie. Youth instruction features Explorers and the Little Porcupines course for Ages 4–6. Older youth students participate in Warriors for Ages 7-10 and Samurai for Ages 11-15. The academy welcomes adult students in their 30s and 40s as well as practitioners into their 60s, recommending at least two classes per week.
