Spartan Academy Mixed Martial Arts

Spartan Academy Mixed Martial Arts delivers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and combat sports training at 6169 Saint Andrews Rd, Suite 130, in Columbia, South Carolina. As a headquarters for the SAS Team lineage in North America, the academy provides technical grappling and striking instruction for students of all experience levels. The school was founded by Head Professor Guybson "The Spartan" Sá, a 4th-degree black belt born in Fortaleza, Brazil. The son of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu red belt Grand Master Francisco Sá, Guybson began training at age four and received his black belt in 2009. His competitive accomplishments include titles as an IBJJF Pan-American Champion, IBJJF World No-Gi Champion, ADCC Nationals Champion, and Conflict MMA Light-Heavyweight Champion. Coaching is supported by Professor John Sturgis, Sá's first student to progress from white belt to black belt, alongside striking coaches Nate Vanbuskirk and Aidan Stoughton. Academy coursework includes adults Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, fundamentals BJJ, little kids classes for ages 4 to 7, youth training for ages 8 to 15, kids competition classes, and open mat sessions. Striking instruction encompasses adults and youth kickboxing alongside Muay Thai fundamentals. Prospective students can register for a complimentary trial class.
