Aaron Milam is the head instructor at Renzo Gracie Academy Portland and co-founder of Workshop Jiu Jitsu. A fourth-degree jiu jitsu black belt, he began training in Los Angeles in 2000 under Carlson Gracie black belt Rey "The King" Diogo. Graduate school took him to New York City in 2005, where he trained on the Renzo Gracie team with John Danaher, who awarded him his black belt in 2008. He also holds a black belt in judo. Milam has competed in jiu jitsu, judo and submission grappling regionally and internationally, and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy. He ran the jiu jitsu program at a New York combat sports gym for about eight years before partnering with teammate Jin Yung to form Workshop Jiu Jitsu. Workshop Portland / RGA PDX was founded in 2013.
