Alex Martins is the founder, owner and head instructor of Alex Martins Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy (AMBJJ) in Dallas. He began martial arts in 1997 at age seventeen under Junior Cardoso in Manaus, Brazil, and today holds a fifth-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with more than twenty years of experience. He has competed extensively around the world to sharpen his own technique and expand what he can pass on to students. Martins won the IBJJF Master World Championship in 2016, and for the 2017/2018 season the IBJJF ranked him first in the world in the black belt Master 2 division, an award presented to him by Carlos Gracie Jr. His teaching emphasizes discipline and confidence, with the aim of preparing students for success beyond the mat.
