Alexandre "Soca" Freitas is the founder of Soca BJJ, headquartered in Wantagh, New York, with additional academies in Glen Cove and in San Diego and Lemon Grove, California. A coral belt with nearly four decades of competing and teaching, he developed the core curriculum used in every adult program, and he continues to train, teach, and compete. Soca began training at 15 after following his older brother, then a blue belt, to Gracie Barra. He trained under Jean Jacques Machado, who laid the foundation for his game, and later under Carlos Gracie Jr., his direct instructor, as he began competing nationally and internationally. His record includes ten IBJJF World Master titles, six Pan-American championships, an ADCC world title, and two Abu Dhabi World Legends championships, and in 2016 he was nominated among the top ten BJJ fighters of all time. His wife, Samantha Freitas, trained alongside him.
