Detailed Description

Ashur Darmo is the professor and founder of The Academy Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Glenview, Illinois. Born and raised in Chicago and brought up by his immigrant grandmother and single mother, he never played organized sports as a child and discovered jiu-jitsu at fifteen. By sixteen he was competing nationally against adults, and seven years later he earned his black belt. Darmo went on to train and teach at Kings MMA in California alongside UFC fighters such as Beneil Dariush, then moved to Los Angeles to train under Romulo Barral at Gracie Barra Northridge. He has beaten USA Wrestling Olympians in jiu-jitsu, won a Pan American Championship, been ranked twelfth in the world by FloGrappling in IBJJF adult no-gi, and holds a 3-1 record in Fight 2 Win professional matches. Now a second-degree black belt at 31, he has spent half his life on the mats.
