Carlos Newton

Carlos "The Ronin" Newton is an instructor at Warrior Mixed Martial Arts and holds a fifth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Renzo Gracie. A former UFC world champion, he was the first Canadian to win a UFC title and the first non-heavyweight to headline international UFC and PRIDE events, and over a professional career of more than 20 years he also competed in Pride FC, the IFL and K-1. His amateur career included multiple Canadian Jiu-Jitsu championships, and at 19 he became the first Canadian invited to compete at the ADCC World Submission Grappling Championship, where he faced a member of the Gracie family. The academy lists him among the professional fighters coached by Terry Riggs, alongside whom he now teaches in Newmarket.
