Clark Gracie is the head instructor at Clark Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in San Diego and holds a third-degree black belt. He is the grandson of Carlos Gracie, the founder of the art, and the son of Carley Gracie, a ninth-degree red belt known as the "Lion of the Gracie family" who earned his black belt directly from Carlos and was the last of the Gracie fighters personally trained by him. Clark earned his own black belt under his father and, like him, practices and teaches techniques that rely on position and leverage rather than strength. According to the academy, he is the only Gracie family member living in San Diego who is both teaching and still competing regularly.
