Derek Lemos is co-owner of Alpha MMA/RCBJJ Lawton in Lawton, Oklahoma, which was established in 2017 under his ownership and leadership together with Tom Shoaff; the school's core group of coaches has been a consistent presence in Lawton MMA and BJJ since 2009. The academy is an affiliate of the Cavalcanti Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association and the Renzo Gracie fight team, and its lineage page places Lemos directly under Master Ricardo Cavalcanti, a fifth-degree black belt who earned his own black belt under Carlson Gracie Sr. in 1995, in a line traced from Kano Jigoro through Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie and Carlson Gracie. Under Lemos and Shoaff the team has produced fighters for promotions including Bellator and Legacy Fighting Alliance and competes in BJJ tournaments across Oklahoma and Texas.
