Diego Saraiva is the owner and head instructor of Diego Saraiva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Norcross, Georgia, the headquarters of Nova União Atlanta. Born in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, he began Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at age 12 and by 20 had moved to the United States to compete and teach. He received his black belt in January 2002 from Guilherme Santos. With more than 30 IBJJF black belt medals, Saraiva is among the most decorated BJJ athletes in Atlanta: a World Championship silver medalist, eight-time Pan American Championship medalist, seven-time Atlanta Open champion and American Nationals champion. He also had a long mixed martial arts career of more than 40 fights, including bouts in the UFC, Bellator and WEF, and held titles in the AFL, PFC and WEF. Jiu Jitsu is a family affair in his household, where his wife Fernanda is a purple belt.
