Emerson Azuma
Emerson Azuma, nicknamed "Kimerson", is the main jiu-jitsu instructor and black belt at Carpe Diem Okinawa. Born on 10 July 1972 in Paranaguá, Brazil, he grew up amid Brazil's natural landscapes and moved to Okinawa in 2019, where he began teaching jiu-jitsu at a dojo on a US military base. While living in Tokyo he coached everyone from actors to professional fighters. A former ZST professional MMA fighter known for pursuing finishes rather than decisions, he carries that emphasis into teaching, insisting that students learn techniques that actually work. His record includes All Japan Shooto grappling and All Japan Pancrase grappling titles, an ADCC Kanto Cup title, All Japan Brazilian jiu-jitsu and All Japan Masters titles at black belt featherweight, a BJJ Asia Cup title and third place at the IBJJF World Masters.
