Gee Vien is the head coach of Vien Jiujitsu and a second-degree jiu-jitsu black belt whose rank comes through Carlos Machado. The academy describes him as the leader of a family of competitive grapplers, and many of its coaches and athletes hold their belts under Vien and April Parks, with whom he coaches. Vien's coaching centers on deliberate skill acquisition, and he holds that a good instructor should be able to teach grappling to students of every level, ability and background, prioritizing quality over quantity. Under his direction Vien Jiujitsu has become a competition-focused gym in Central New York whose members have won IBJJF Adult World, Masters World and Kids Pan championships.
