Professor Gustavo Bessa leads Brazilian Top Team Happy Valley, having taken over the former gym in 2017 and formalized its affiliation with the Brazilian Top Team organization under his own professor, Diego Gamonal, who awarded him his black belt. A retired professional MMA fighter, Bessa was ranked the number one amateur in the Pacific Northwest before turning pro, finishing with a 9-0 amateur and 3-3 professional record, and afterwards developed the academy's MMA HIIT program. His competition results include silver in the absolute division and bronze in his weight class at the IBJJF Pan Americans (Masters 1), silver at the IBJJF European Masters and multiple medals at IBJJF American Nationals and Opens. Bessa combines his fighting background with expertise in child development to shape the academy's programs and has assembled a team of coaches focused on self-defense, competition training and healthy lifestyles.
