Professor Jefferson Vilhena is the founder of Equipe Vilhena Jiu-Jitsu in Marabá, Pará, and holds a 5th degree black belt registered with the CBJJ. He has taught Jiu-Jitsu for 25 years. Encouraged by his family, and his mother in particular, he trained Karate, Judo, boxing and Capoeira as a child before finding Jiu-Jitsu in 1995 at age 17, and was soon competing in Vale Tudo events and Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. In 1999, at 21, he was invited by the Viera family, notably his former Karate master Arlindo Viera, to teach Jiu-Jitsu in Marabá, a city in southern Pará that then had no academy of the art. He began with just four students, and the team has since grown across neighbouring municipalities, especially Parauapebas, with an instructor roster that now includes several 2nd and 3rd degree black belts.
