Joao P Faria

Joao "Johnny" Faria is the head instructor of Alliance Jiu-Jitsu San Diego. Originally from Brazil, he has more than thirty years on the mat and twenty-three years as a black belt, and he moved to San Diego in 2007 with the goal of building a jiu-jitsu academy. A multi-time IBJJF medalist, he has coached students to championships and describes his teaching as a blend of old-school fundamentals and modern technique, with an emphasis on growth, community and respect. Faria also leads the academy's kids program, where he teaches young students to train with discipline and respect, breaking techniques down simply so they can understand and apply them.
