John Fain is the founder, program director and head instructor of Triumph BJJ in Nashua, New Hampshire, which he opened in 2007 with the support of his professor, Roberto Maia of Boston BJJ. He received his black belt from Maia in 2011 and is now a third-degree black belt. Born in Nashua, Fain spent most of his childhood in Virginia before returning during high school. He earned a BA in psychology from Southern New Hampshire University and an MSW from Boston University, and previously worked as a child and family therapist and part-time college professor. He regularly teaches four to eight classes a day, several of them alongside his son Johnny, and spends much of his time on student evaluation, curriculum development and lesson planning. He has coached numerous BJJ competitors and MMA athletes.
