Julio Cesar "Foca" Fernandez Nunes is the co-founder of BJJ Revolution Team, which he leads with Rodrigo Medeiros. Born and raised in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, he first competed as a surfer, twice winning the Rio de Janeiro State Championship, before beginning jiu-jitsu at 17 under Grand Master Carlson Gracie Sr. He earned his black belt in 1988 and competed for the Carlson Gracie Sr. Competition Elite Team, becoming a five-time Brazilian national champion, three-time Rio de Janeiro state champion and two-time IBJJF world champion. He is a 7th degree coral belt under Carlson Gracie Sr., certified by the CBJJP, USBJJF and IBJJF, and co-authored the book "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Experts Only" with his late instructor. He is also a USA Boxing certified training coach.
