Luiz Guilherme, known as Guigo, is the founder of Guigo Jiu-Jitsu, a network that the site counts at 71 affiliated units in Brazil and abroad, including Guigo JJ International in the Netherlands. He has practised jiu-jitsu for more than 40 years and taught for 20. He started in 1980 at the age of six under Mestre Jorge Pereira, a student of Rickson Gracie, and it was Pereira who awarded him his black belt; his lineage runs Mitsuyo Maeda, Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Jorge Pereira, Luiz Guilherme. His competitive record includes the 1997 World Championship title, third place at the 1998 Worlds, world runner-up finishes in 2002 and 2009, Pan-American titles in 1996 and 1998, second place at the 1999 Brazilian Team Championship and seven Brazilian national titles.
