Detailed Description

Marcelo "Lapela" Mafra is the head professor of Marcelo Mafra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a Checkmat academy in Hesperia serving the High Desert region of Southern California. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Demian Maia and has worked extensively with instructors including Everdan Olegário (Mestre Dan), Fernando Tererê, Lucas Leite and Leonardo Vieira. His lineage runs from Mitsuyo Maeda through Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, Rolls Gracie, Romero Cavalcanti, Fabio Gurgel and Demian Maia. Mafra is known for his results on the IBJJF circuit, with medals at the Brazilian, Pan, World No-Gi and World Masters Championships, and the academy describes him as a reigning World Champion.
