Marco Antônio Barbosa, known as Barbosinha, was born in 1968 in Araçatuba, in the interior of São Paulo state. An active child who ran, swam in the river and climbed trees, he took up sport in a playful way under the influence of his father Manuel, who trained judo at the time. In judo, Barbosa became known for his ground fighting and the way he pinned and choked his opponents. Today, as Mestre Barbosa, he heads Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu, a São Paulo-based network of martial arts academies with more than 50 affiliates worldwide, over 60 professors trained in the team's B9 teaching method and more than 3,000 students. His techniques are collected on the team's B9TV platform.
