Professor Marcus Hicks is the owner of Hicks MMA and the author of the curriculum its coaches follow. He came to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a single father who wanted to make sure his daughter could defend herself, and what began as a father's determination became a lifelong pursuit; he went on to earn a 4th degree black belt. Hicks later took up boxing under coach John Lawson of Colony Boxing, a partnership that carried him to a bout at Madison Square Garden, where he beat the hometown favorite. He also trained in Muay Thai for close to a decade, and his MMA career peaked with a fight for the WEC world title at 155 pounds. Today he leads Hicks MMA with the aim of helping every member reach their personal best on and off the mat.
