Max Gimenis is the head instructor and co-founder of Culture of Jiu Jitsu Academy in Gaithersburg, Maryland, which he opened with Eric Philcox. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1993, he came up through GF Team under Júlio César Pereira, living and training at the academy and developing the team's pressure-passing style as a super-heavyweight. Pereira awarded him his black belt on the podium after he won the brown-belt title at the 2016 IBJJF World Championship. At black belt his results include IBJJF Pan gold in 2020, a silver at the 2021 IBJJF Worlds and a 2022 ADCC World Championship appearance; he received his third degree in December 2025. He later moved into mixed martial arts, compiling a 6-2 professional record and signing with the UFC heavyweight division in 2025. He coaches kids, adults, women, beginners and competitors.
