Michael Alvarez is the owner and head Jiu Jitsu instructor at Movement Academy in Henderson, where he leads both the kids and adults Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs. He is a black belt under Rubens "Cobrinha" Charles Maciel and Hector Vasquez, with nearly 20 years in Jiu-Jitsu along with experience in other martial arts, and through years of teaching and competing under his professors he became proficient in the Cobrinha system. He is described as Professor Hector's first student and world champion in Las Vegas. Alvarez's competition record spans kids, juvenile and adult divisions and includes five Kids Worlds and five IBJJF Kids Pan American titles, IBJJF Pan American and World championships in 2016, the 2016 Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, a 2017 IBJJF World title, Pan American silver and bronze in 2017 and 2018, and the 2019 IBJJF Las Vegas Open.
