Nelson Puentes is a black belt and co-founder of Inverted Gear Academy, which he runs with fellow co-founder and black belt Hillary Witt. He is also the founder of the Inverted Gear brand, whose gear is worn by grapplers in gyms around the world. An active competitor, he took bronze at the IBJJF World Masters. Puentes has traveled internationally with BJJ Globetrotters, teaching seminars and training camps across North America and Europe, and that experience shapes how he builds the academy's curriculum, taking what works at the highest levels and making it accessible at every starting point. He is known as a teacher who translates complex jiu-jitsu into concepts that stick, and he teaches the Cubs kids' program himself alongside the adult classes.
