Rodrigo Mendes is the head instructor at RMBJJ Academy of Jiu Jitsu in Delray Beach, Florida, where he holds a 5th degree black belt and is a certified instructor under the IBJJF. He began practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s, started teaching as a blue belt in the mid-nineties, and received his black belt in 2004. His lineage runs from Mitsuyo Maeda through Carlos Gracie, Carlson Gracie, Fernando "Pinduka" Guimarães, Leonardo Castelo Branco, and Alexandre "Grandão" Dantas. A decorated competitor at the local, national, and international levels, Mendes is also a certified IBJJF/USBJJF referee and has officiated competitions nationally and internationally since 2004. Students note his knack for remembering everyone who trains with him.
