Samuel Hertzog Canquerino is a 4th degree black belt and is listed first on the instructor roster of SHC BJJ, the team behind SHC BJJ Nova in Virginia, which opened as the team's first academy in the United States with a seminar attended by students, friends, and invited black belts. Canquerino remains an active black belt competitor. At the PBJJF Grand Slam Virginia in Winchester in January 2025 he won a super fight against David Adams in a rematch, reversing the position with a half-guard sweep and controlling from the top through the finish. He also competed as a black belt at the 2024 IBJJF Virginia International Open in Fredericksburg, and has appeared as a guest on the DreamsNotFame podcast.
