Shane Zeringue is the owner of True Jiujitsu Academy and a third-degree black belt who leads the academy's kids and evening classes. He began jiu-jitsu in 1996 in Clute, Texas, where there were no academies nearby, learning from books and instructional videos and testing himself in competition before finding Revolution Dojo in Houston and traveling there regularly to train. He started teaching in 2000, moved to the Austin area in 2009 while keeping ties to his instructors and mentors, and reunited with his original team in 2015. Zeringue was awarded his black belt in January 2014. His results include bronze at the 2012 IBJJF Pan American Championships and gold at the 2022 Austin Winter International Open, and his teaching emphasizes the fundamentals of the sport.
