Steven Barnett is the founder and co-owner of The Inferno Training and Performance Center, which he opened in 2011. He has trained since 2005 and received his black belt from his instructor, UFC veteran Kurt Pellegrino, with the promotion overseen and signed off by Marcelo Garcia. Barnett has competed in both grappling and mixed martial arts but says his real passion is teaching. He has taught in Costa Rica, Vietnam, Portugal and Peru and encourages his students to pack a gi on every trip. Since 2019 he has also owned and run a second academy, Rincon Jiu Jitsu in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Several of the Inferno's current instructors earned their jiu-jitsu black belts under him.
