Teddy Emberton is the adults' head instructor at Absolute Self Defense Academy in Copperas Cove, where he holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He runs the academy with his wife, owner Brittnay Emberton, whose father opened the school in 2015; the site describes the couple as IBJJF-certified with a competitive background. Before moving to grappling, Emberton taught Taekwondo, and he is now a jiu-jitsu instructor certified under the academy's head coach, Britt Emberton. His time in martial arts led him toward a career in education: he earned an associate degree in education and then a bachelor's degree in history. He describes his coaching philosophy as a belief that every student has the potential to succeed in life, not just on the mat.
