Tomoya Akazawa
Tomoya Akazawa is the instructor at mobless BJJ in Yawata, Kyoto Prefecture, where he holds a first-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He began training jiu-jitsu 17 years ago and describes himself as never having been especially athletic; what drew him to the art was the idea that anyone can become stronger through creativity and persistence. His favourite techniques are sweeps and back takes, and on the mat he prioritises a safe and enjoyable learning environment built on respect and dialogue rather than hierarchy. Akazawa also competes. In 2019 he finished the year ranked number one in the adult brown belt yearly rankings, and in 2022 he won the All Japan Masters Championship in the Master 2 division.
