Vicente Cavalcanti is the founder, owner and head coach of Southside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on the Gold Coast, which runs academies in Burleigh and Ormeau. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, he holds multiple Brazilian and Australian BJJ titles and is a medallist at the BJJ World Championship; he is also a sponsored Braus athlete. Much of Southside's coaching staff came up under him, with several black belts, including Aaron Wise, Rodney Brooking, Dave Kapa and Ben Rigby, and a group of brown belts all listed as having earned their rank under "Prof. VC". Students describe him speaking to each of them individually at the end of class to check on their progress.
