Professor Alexandre Novaes is the founder of Transform Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Torrance, California, which opened in 2019. A sixth-degree black belt and world champion, he has been training since 1986, giving him more than 40 years on the mat, and his lineage runs through Jorge Pereira and Rickson Gracie. Novaes teaches every class at Transform himself. He opened the academy after decades of competing and coaching, with the aim of giving every student, from white belt to black belt, the kind of individual attention usually reserved for elite athletes, and of building a community around respect and personal growth.
