Daniel "Diesel" Fundora is the head instructor and owner of Arise Martial Arts in the South Miami area, and an IBJJF-certified second-degree black belt. A born-and-raised Floridian, he practiced martial arts from a young age and started jiu-jitsu in 2011 at Carlson Gracie Miami, where he picked up the nickname "Diesel." He began teaching as he moved up the belts, competed at every rank, and won a World Championship in 2017. He received his black belt in December 2018 from Professor Michel Porfirio Pereira at Carlson Gracie Miami and opened Arise soon afterwards. Fundora still competes and travels frequently to compete alongside his students or coach them. He is a husband, a father of two girls, and retired from the Department of Homeland Security. His wife, Professor Michelle Fundora, earned her black belt under him in January 2025 and co-owns the school.
