Earl DelValle, known as Shihan DelValle, is the senior student of Hanshi Andrew Gruenwald (1942–2000) and the head of the Nokido Ju-Jitsu system taught at this North Port dojo. Before Gruenwald's death he told DelValle, then a 5th degree black belt who had learned most of the Nokido system from him, that it would be up to him to carry Nokido Ju-Jitsu forward in the United States. DelValle went on to evolve the system by adding techniques from the other arts he has studied, including Judo, Aikido, Shito Ryu Karate, defensive tactics and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and in 2001 Nokido Ju-Jitsu was certified by the United States Ju-Jitsu Federation and International Ju-Jitsu Federation. He now holds the rank of 7th Dan in Nokido Ju-Jitsu and has produced a line of certified black belts, including Sensei Chris Ritchie, whom he helped establish teaching in North Port.
