Joey Dean is the owner of Carolina Family Jiu Jitsu in Rock Hill, South Carolina, a Jean Jacques Machado association school he runs with his wife, Professor Janae Dean. A lifelong martial artist, he began Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2013 and trained within the Jean Jacques Machado association in Florida; when he moved to Rock Hill he wanted to stay in the association and opened the academy in early 2023 to fill the need for a Machado school in the state. He holds a black belt under David Werner, a 3rd degree black belt under Jean Jacques Machado, and has also earned a black belt in judo, with years of training in wrestling, boxing and Muay Thai.
