Louis Vintaloro is the head instructor of Performance Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, the academy he built and has run since 1998, and he still personally teaches almost every class, including the children's programs. He holds a 5th degree black belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under Royler Gracie and the IBJJF, along with a 1st degree black belt in judo from the US Judo Federation under Sensei Nagayasu Ogasawara. He was a member of the Gracie Humaitá world competition team in Rio de Janeiro in 2000-2001 and has trained in Brazil more than 30 times. Off the mat, Vintaloro earned a B.A. in Education cum laude from William Paterson University, holds a New Jersey public school teaching certification, served as an adjunct professor at Ramapo College, and taught Gracie-based defensive tactics at the Bergen County Police Academy. The academy credits his teaching with developing many local instructors and competitors.
